FAQ

What’s on your mind?

We want to make this process as simple as it can be for your family. Here are the steps for engaging with Learn, Love and Grow Counseling:

1. Contact the PerformCare at 1-877-652-7624 or online at https://www.performcarenj.org/

2. PerformCare will send a professional to assess your family’s needs and determine the level of care your youth will require.

3. If Care Management Organization Services are authorized, you can choose to be referred to LLG Counseling or your Care Management Organization will make a referral.

Once LLG Counseling receives the referral, we’ll assign your case and reach out via phone call within one week. Note: We do not have any control of your Care Management Organization’s turnaround time. We cannot speak to the length of the process, only that we will reach out to you as soon as possible once we receive the referral.

Generally, In-Home services are covered by Medicaid and/or some private insurances. Your CMO care manager will help you determine eligibility and coverage for services.

Our services (Intensive In-Community, Parent Coaching, Mentoring, and Behavioral Assistants) offer short-term assistance to attend to the mental health needs of youth and their families. This often involves regulating, stabilizing, and laying the groundwork for long-term behavior change.

Talking to a therapist can help you process feelings, thoughts, and past experiences to promote healthing and growth. Parent Coaching offers an opportunity for parents and caretakers to learn how to support the growth and development of their family and improve relationships. You can learn more about our services here

Your Care Management Organization (CMO) will determine and approve length of treatment based on your individual case. Unfortunately, LLG Counseling does not have any control over this situation. While it can vary, it’s typically one to four hours across the following services: In-Home Therapy, Behavioral Assistant, Parent Coach, and Mentoring.

Services are authorized for three months. After 90 days, your Care Manager will review the case for reauthorization.

While medication can be part of a treatment plan, LLG Counseling does not prescribe medication. If we believe that medication might be supportive, we will refer you to a psychiatrist for consultation. Our focus at LLG Counseling is stabilization, behavior change and healing through therapy.

Follow these general steps if you believe your child is in crisis. It is necessary to pay close attention to any suicidal ideation, attempts, or threats.

  1. Identify if there is an immediate threat to the child or family. If there is, call 911 immediately.
  2. If there is no immediate threat and your child is in need of behavioral health assistance contact PerformCare at 1-877-652-7624 to request Children’s Mobile Response and Stabilization Services.
  3. If the behavioral crisis escalates, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room for assistance.

We understand that it can be hard to differentiate between mental health issues and the normal swings of adolescence. Mental health struggles for youth are very much real, but often can present differently than the same issues in adults. We advise you to always take suicidal ideation/harming urges as real, distressing, and urgent. We offer Parent Coaching at LLG Counseling which can help you understand and support your child’s mental health concerns.

Our clinical team is trained to provide comprehensive, evidence-based treatment for the following diagnoses: Trauma, depression, anxiety, ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Grief, Obsessive Compulsive Behavior, Gender Identity, Behavior Modification, Anger Management, Suicidal/Homicideal Ideation and Prevention, Self-esteem, and Parenting Skills. Read more about our approach on the Team Page

Once you’re approved by your CMO, they’ll reach out to us with your case. The case is assigned to a provider within one week. Once assigned, the provider will contact you within 24 hours to schedule an intake session. We suggest scheduling your intake as soon as possible. Our intake sessions are ideally completed in your home, but can also take place at the office as needed.
